Liverpool Transfer News: Lyon forward claims he is 'flattered' by Liverpool transfer speculation

Maxwel Cornet has said that he is ‘flattered’ by Liverpool links.

Liverpool have been linked with plenty of players in the transfer window so far. The Reds are unlikely to do business until the Champions League final, but many reports have suggested about their interest to reinforce their attack.

Jurgen Klopp’s side has been linked with a potential move for four different Lyon players – Nabil Fekir, Houssem Aouar, Memphis Depay, and Maxwel Cornet. The French outfit have one of the best forward lines in the top division after PSG, and it comes as a no surprise to see them attract interest from many top clubs.

The final one in the list, Maxwel Cornet, has stepped up his gear this season and has earned adulation. The Ivorian has scored 12 goals from 36 games this campaign, and has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old old has said that the contract negotiations have stalled despite his desire to stay at Groupama Stadium. When he was asked about the interest from Liverpool, Cornet said that he is ‘flattered’ to be linked with a ‘big’ club.

Watford is the only Premier League side to enter the race to sign him, along with Liverpool.

“I did not say I want to leave,” Cornet told beIN SPORTS.

“We met [Jean-Michel Aulas] in January, and I said I want to extend [my contract], but talks were not successful. Liverpool are a big club – any links are flattering. My contract is until 2021, but you never know in football.”

Liverpool are expected to sign a left winger as they already have Xherdan Shaqiri in the ranks to provide cover for Mohamed Salah. The Reds are in shortage of options up front and through the left wing. Any versatile attacker would be an ample option for Jurgen Klopp.

What’s next?

Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final at Wanda Metropolitano on June 1. Any possible deal is expected to be made official even if the deal has been agreed with a player, keeping the final in the mind.
