When Arsenal first contacted Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez over a possible contract extension back in the summer of 2015, both players seemed keen on getting it done as quickly as possible, as the two superstars were happy to continue their careers at Arsenal.

It’s been two and a half years since that summer, and Arsenal now face the very real prospect of losing their two best players for nothing in six months time.

Not only will the loss of Ozil and Sanchez reduce the overall quality in the squad, but the fact that Arsenal readily threw away over 150 million pounds, that could have been used for investment in the squad, would not please their fans.

A month or so ago, most people believed that Wenger took the wrong call in the summer, as some feel that he would have been better off selling his two prized assets.

It just seemed as if Ozil and Sanchez did not care about Arsenal anymore, as the pair often looked disinterested and lacked commitment during the matches.

But then all of a sudden, Mesut Ozil produced one of his best displays in an Arsenal shirt against Tottenham at home, as the German wizard took his game up another notch.

Ozil has been sensational since that day, as the German has suddenly become the main man in this Arsenal side. Doubts over his commitment quickly dissipated, as Ozil put in brilliant performances one after the other for the Gunners.

While Sanchez has looked quite poor at times, Ozil’s displays have given Gooners hope that he may very well sign an extension. And now Arsenal themselves have dropped a huge hint, as both players were part of the Arsenal calendar for 2018.

Sanchez was seen on the January cover, as some people consider this as a sign of Arsenal preparing themselves for the eventual departure of the Chilean. But Ozil’s number was interesting, as Mesut was found on the October cover, well past the summer transfer window.

Also, October is the tenth month of the year, which could be another sign of a new shirt number for the German next season.
