Lyon embarrasses itself with most outrageous own goal against PSG

Lyon embarrasses itself with the most outrageous own-goal in the history of football in a match against PSG, giving a 4-2 victory to Les Parisiens.

Ligue 1 teams are often mocked for making things easy for PSG and horrendous defending but last night things went a step further as Lyon’s Fernando Marcal scored one of the most embarrassing own goals in the history of the sport.

Kylian Mbappe made a skilfull pass to Julian Draxler. he charged down the left flank and attempted to play the ball into one of his teammates, only for Anthony Lopes to put him under pressure by charging out of his net.

Thiago Mendes desperately tried to clear the ball out of the area, but hilariously knocked it back into the path of Draxler. The 26-year-old German kept the ball in play and tried to guide it into the path of an unmarked Di Maria inside the box.

But Draxler was fortunate enough to see his pass land into the path of Marcal, who stumbled as he produced a sublime finish to hammer the ball into his own net.

If this had been some lower-positioned team in the table, it would still have been ignorable, but it was Lyon, which is one of the most successful French clubs and this was highly embarrassing for the team.

Before this goal, PSG was already 2 goals ahead in the game, Angel Di Maria scored the first goal after cutting in from the wing and finishing with a powerful low-driven shot from a tight angle.

Later Mbappe doubled the score after a few minutes, and this goal gave a heavy trail to Lyon. Although Lyon tried to make a comeback and hammered 2 goals with the strikes by Martin Terrier and Moussa Dembele.

But a goal by Edison Cavani in the final phase of the game sealed the victory for Les Parisiens, as they lead the table with 12 points against second-placed Marseille.
