Man Utd defender Eric Bailly attempted an overhead kick 20 minutes after returning from a serious knee injury. The Red Devils are in the midst of an injury crisis.

Manchester United received a severe blow to their top 4 chances when Harry Maguire picked up an injury against Wolverhampton in the FA Cup last weekend. The Red Devils are already without star midfielder Paul Pogba and their best midfielder this season, Scott McTominay.

A returning Eric Bailly is therefore music to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ears. The Ivorian defender suffered a knee injury in July that kept him out for the whole of 2019. However, he has now recovered. In a bid to ease him into the playing XI, he started for their U23 side against Newcastle. Although, easing into his return is an understatement considering what he would go on to attempt 20 minutes into the match.

While others would use these matches to get back to match fitness and feel the ball on their legs once again. Eric Bailly is not like others. Instead of taking it easy, Bailly decided to give his all and attempted an overhead kick and nearly scored for his side.

Fortunately for his side, Bailly did not aggravate his old injuries and instead got valuable playing time, managing 61 minutes before being substituted. With only Victor Lindelöf and Phil Jones available at centre back, Bailly will be a welcome addition to a side that is yet to find consistency on the pitch.
