Manchester United have hit back at Barcelona after they set the away ticket price at £102 – the highest in United’s history outside of the final.

Manchester United will take on Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinals next month.

The English side overturned a 2-0 deficit to impose a shocking defeat on Paris Saint Germain in the round-of-16 of the competition.

However, Manchester United fans received a setback ahead of the crucial away fixture at Camp Nou. In a statement released by United’s website, the club informed that Barcelona have set the away ticket price at £102. The price is the highest in Manchester United’s history outside of the competition’s final.

The club has hit back at the increased prices in style, however – by charging the same amount from the Barcelona fans.

Manchester United’s reply to Barcelona:

Manchester United criticised Barcelona in a statement released on their website, where they stated that the club’s supporters have been charged with increased prices for the tickets.

“In this instance we believe that our travelling supporters are again being subjected to increased/excessive ticket prices from the host club,” a statement from Manchester United read.

“We have again taken the difficult decision to charge FC Barcelona fans for the home leg at Old Trafford the same amount that FC Barcelona are charging for the away fixture (£102).

“We will use the additional revenue gained from this to subsidise our travelling support by paying the £27 price difference for each of our travelling supporters.”

Manchester United made a similar move last season during the round-of-16 fixture against Sevilla, where the Spanish club charged £82. At the time, Manchester United introduced a subsidy of £25.

Earlier in the season, Bayern Munich also raised the concern of high prices for away tickets ahead of their game against Liverpool in the round-of-16 of the tournament.
