Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly targetting Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid to replace Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are eyeing a deal for Atletico Madrid’s midfielder Saul Niguez to replace Paul Pogba at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are reluctant to sell the French International, but Real Madrid and Juventus are keen on his signature. This might see the World Cup winner leave Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
The midfield is already a problem and the departure of Pogba will hurt the club. But, if Saul Niguez agrees to join the English side, Solskjaer will be open to listening offers for the former Juventus midfielder.
The Spanish publication AS claims that the club will approach the Atletico Madrid midfielder if Paul Pogba decides to leave. Albeit wanting him, many stars including Diego Godin, Antoine Griezmann, Felipe Luis, and Rodri have left the club. In order to stabilize the club, Diego Simeone will keep Saul at any cost and would turn down any bid down to keep him at Wanda Metropolitano.
The report also claims that Solskjaer has even made contact with his representatives. The 24-year-old is the owner of €150 million release clause. On the other hand, the Red Devils are also demanding a fee of €150 million to secure Paul Pogba’s services. So, the English side will not have a problem triggering the release clause.
Saul was a target for Manchester City, but they opted for his teammate Rodri, who has formally competed his move to the reigning Premier League champions today. The deal is set to be worth €71 million.
Red Devils, on the other hand, have made a couple of signings in the transfer window. They have signed Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Swansea City and Crystal Palace respectively.

Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernandez, Rodri, Filipe Luis and Diego Godin all leaving Atletico and the futures of Jan Oblak and Saúl Ñíguez remain unclear. All in one summer. Difficult to see how a club recovers from this

What’s next?
With no Champions League at stake, the Red Devils will find it hard to entice someone of Saul Niguez’s stature in the summer window.
