Pochettino to take over Mourinho

Manchester United have to pay a premium amount of 34 million Pounds to lure Mauricio Pochettino from Tottenham Hotspur.

Vice Chairman Ed Woodward has a huge task in his hands to find a replacement for Jose Mourinho after deciding against keeping him for the remainder of the season. It is understood that the Red Devils will need to shell out 25 million to the former Portuguese International following his decision to leave the club on mutual consent on Tuesday morning.

For the interim basis, United have appointed their former starman Ole Gunnar Solskjaer until end of the season. Mauricio Pochettino is one of the candidates in Manchester United’s shortlist for the permanent hot seat at Old Trafford.

According to the Times, it is apprehended that the current Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is the leading candidate to take over the club in the summer. However, it might turn out to be tricky as Manchester United need to pay a premium amount of 34 million Pounds to enter the negotiations with the Argentine.

Additionally, he believes that United should consider him for the role and he sees the opportunity too good to turn down at this point of time.

Following the media speculation by linking Pochettino to Real Madrid after the resignation of Zinedine Zidane, Spurs acted quickly to keep their man at London. The Argentine signed a new five-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur which will keep him at the club till 2023.

He said that he would be interested in taking Real Madrid over, but remained committed to Spurs project “When Real Madrid call you, you have to listen to them. Although in this case it doesn’t depend on me. I have just signed a long contract with Tottenham and I am very happy here.

“I am happy at Tottenham because they let me work and we are growing together. Right now I want to focus on planning for next season and keep out of all the things that are being said. There will be lots of rumours, lots of things said, but I have no news from Real Madrid.”

The former Southampton manager enjoys a great relationship with the chairman Daniel Levy who is a very hard negotiator. It could prove even tougher to negotiate with them as there has been only one release clause inserted in Pochettino’s contract. The only way United can bring him to United is to buy him out of the contract worth 8.5 million Pounds every year.

The Spurs boss remained discreet when he was asked about the availability to take over Manchester United in the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino said “I cannot answer this type of question. These type of rumours happen in this business, in football. I always respect the opinion of everyone, whether people praise me, whether people do not agree with me, whether people say different things. The business we know very well.

“A lot of rumours happen but it is not my business what happened at another club. I am so focused in trying to deliver my best job at this football club.

“We have ahead of us a very busy run of fixtures, tomorrow we play another derby. It is so important for us – the quarter-final of the cup and I think everyone understand I am focused on tomorrow and doing my best job.”

Although Mauricio Pochettino is linked with the job, the Red Devils are having one eye on Zinedine Zidane, Leonardo Jardim, and Laurent Blanc as well.
