Manchester United players will have their salary cut short by 25% after failing to secure Champions League football.
Missing out on Champions League football will disrupt the whole club. The Red Devils, who were not able to get past Huddersfield Town at John Smith Stadium have been dealt a huge blow and will struggle to keep some of their stars.
Manchester United confirmed their Europa League status after drawing 1-1 with the Terriers. Besides, they are no longer in the Champions League or Europa League to have an effect on that place.
In order to save the club from revenues, the English publication Daily Mail quoted that the players will have their salary cut by 25% should they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. Now that their failure to procure Champions League football has been confirmed, the players will be forced to earn less than they used to.
Alexis Sanchez’s 500,000 pounds per week salary is going to be cut short by 125,000 to 375,000, providing he remains at the club post-summer. Pogba’s wage will now be reduced by 75,000 from 300,000 to 225,000 pounds per week, whilst David De Gea will go earning from 200,000 pounds per week to 150,000 pounds per week.
Here is the clause of some top earners at the club.
Alexis Sanchez
- Wage: £500,000 p/w
- Wage minus 25%: £375,000 p/w
Paul Pogba
- Wage: £300,000 p/w
- Wage minus 25%: £225,000 p/w
Romelu Lukaku
- Wage: £250,000 p/w
- Wage minus 25%: £187,000 p/w
David de Gea
- Wage: £200,000 p/w
- Wage minus 25%: £150,000 p/w
Fred
- Wage: £175,000 p/w
- Wage minus 25%: £131,000 p/w
Besides, Paul Pogba is set to miss out on 1.8 million bonus after failing to qualify for the Champions League, according to the football leaks.
The contract dispute between some of the players including David De Gea and Paul Pogba, and the club has not been settled because of this conundrum. This is the sole reason why Paul Pogba is demanding a hefty sum to stay at the club after the conclusion of this summer. Whereas, United, who splashed 500,000 per week on Alexis Sanchez, are struggling to meet the demands of David De Gea, who is believed to have demanded the same as the Chilean International.
