Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on Ander Herrera’s future, amidst reports that the player could leave the club in the summer.
Ander Herrera’s transfer speculations have grown significantly in the last few weeks. After the Spanish midfielder gave an interview to the ‘ABC’ that he could leave the club, the reports linking him with a move to PSG have considerably increased.
The Manchester United midfielder joined the club in 2014 and established himself as a key player unde Van Gaal, Mourinho and Solskjaer.
The Norwegian manager used Herrera as a first-team midfielder ever since his arrival in December until his injury ahead of the second leg of the round-of-16 tie against PSG in March.
As Manchester United prepares to get back to winning ways against West Ham on Saturday night, Solskjaer provided an update on Ander Herrera in the pre-match conference.
Solskjaer on Ander Herrera:
The Manchester United manager stated that the talks for a new contract are ongoing, but insisted that can’t confirm if Ander Herrera will eventually sign a new one.
“He’s been working really hard to get fit from his injury he sustained against Liverpool,” Solskjaer began. “He came back and got a different one here in training, he’s been putting a lot of work in and that’s come at a time as you say there are contract talks but that’s ongoing.
“I can’t really comment too much on how far they are down the line.”
Solskjaer stated that the midfielder would be committed to the club even if he had ‘five weeks’ remaining in his contract.
“You have to ask him. I don’t know how they’ve been the last few talks, but we’ve let him focus on his fitness as well.
“He loves to play and [he’s] not very happy when he can’t help his teammates and always giving his all, doesn’t matter if it’s five weeks or five years on his contract.”
The United manager suggested that the speculations over his future seem to have worried the midfielder. Solskjaer also stated that the midfielder could be out for the games against Chelsea and Manchester City later this month as well.
“Maybe the future might have been worrying him and maybe that’s part of the reason he’s injured, who knows he doesn’t know hopefully he can be available for Chelsea or City but I’m not sure.
“He got another muscle injury.”
How Twitter reacted..
Lots of noise around Ander Herrera to PSG, as though United are selling their soul by failing to keep him. It’s a sign of where United are that people are mourning his departure. An honest squad player at best, but not one who will make United compete for the PL / CL.

Though Ander Herrera is not the most skilled, there is an underrated value in having players that maintain a culture, and demand a certain standard in the dressing room. Whilst not the most skilled, you could never fault his commitment or desire to succeed at Man Utd. Big loss. pic.twitter.com/jUIwBqfBIn

#MUFC’s lack of communication with Ander Herrera has played a major part in his plans to leave. Herrera had been keen to stay but things went quiet regarding contract talks for three months around the start of the year – a time when he had two other offers on the table
