Manchester United Transfer News: Barcelona star given green light for Old Trafford move in Summer Transfer Window

Barcelona have given green light to Ivan Rakitic over a possible transfer to Manchester United.

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their midfield ranks in the summer transfer window. On the other hand, Barcelona are willing to part ways with their midfielder Ivan Rakitic, despite manager’s reluctance.

There were few reports quoting about the Red Devils interest in the midfielder. However, Ernesto Valverde is an admirer of the midfield and wouldn’t let him leave the club. But, the landscape has changed over the last couple of days.

According to Cadena Ser, Ernesto Valverde is willing to sell Ivan Rakitic in the summer transfer window if he is handed out a perfect replacement to the outgoing Croat. Frenkie De Jong has already signed for the club, but it looks unlikely to witness him in an advanced midfield position.

There is no doubt about Ivan Rakitic’s qualities, but age is the negative point for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The former Sevilla midfielder is already 31 and the Blaugrana will sell him for no lesser than 50 million.

Paul Pogba has been vigorously linked with Juventus and Real Madrid. Ivan Rakitic has the legs to operate in an attacking position by linking up to the midfield and attack. The Croatian International made 53 appearances for the club, scoring five times and assisting eight times throughout the season.

His injury record is second to none. He has missed only 9 games in four consecutive seasons for FC Barcelona. United’s midfield has been fragile as Nemanja Matic and Fred have often sat on the sidelines.

Rakitic would be a valuable short-term option for the English side, but the price tag and Champions League failure are massive hurdles.

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

Ivan Rakitic’s deal looks possible, but the Red Devils will have second thoughts about his age. However, he could prove to be an excellent sweetener in the midfield for the English side.
