Mateo Guendouzi on Arsenal: Arsenal’s player of the month in his first ever season with the club has spoken in length about the club.
19-year-old young midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi has been voted as Arsenal’s Player of the Month for August after the Frenchman’s brilliant performances in all four league games of the season so far.
Guendouzi has been one of the most surprising selections of Unai Emery this season, with the 19-year-old not expected to play much when he arrived from Ligue 2 side Lorient this past summer.
However, the troubles of Arsenal in midfield aided by the late arrival of Lucas Torreira meant there was space for Guendouzi to fill.
To his credit, the Frenchman has settled into the Premier League brilliantly, and showed great maturity.
Unai Emery has started Guendouzi in all four Premier League games of the season, making him the only teenager to achieve this feat in Arsenal’s decorated history.
The 19-year-old has become a fan favourite following his bright start to the season, and he spoke to Ouest-France to discuss his experience with the Gunners.

Guendouzi said: “It’s the club of my heart, the one I support since I was a kid. I grew up watching videos of Vieira, Henry and the others with my father. French players who made history. When I knew the club was interested to bring me in, I didn’t hesitate”.
The teenager is trying not to get his celebrity status get to his head, and his first thought is to give it all to the club everyday. Despite him having the prospect of getting into the France national team on the back of his mine, his immediate aim is to perform well on the pitch for the Gunners.
He continued: “For now, I’m focused on my goals with Arsenal. I’m not rushing things. They will happen if they happen, but obviously, it’s a dream for me. I’m going to do everything to get there one day. If I do it, it’ll be amazing.”
