The last few weeks have been hugely disappointing for Solskjaer, as his side faced defeats in the Champions League tie against Barcelona, and suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park.
City, meanwhile, faced yet another quarterfinal exit in the Champions League – this time, to Tottenham. However, they made amends in the league against Pochettino’s side, as they registered a narrow 1-0 win on the weekend.

Goalkeeper: Ederson
David De Gea’s poor form and lack of consistency in the Manchester United defence favor Ederson for this game. Moreover, Ederson has been in excellent form throughout the season, so I place my money on the Blues’ shot-stopper.
Defence: Walker, Laporte, Lindelof, Shaw
Kyle Walker and Aymeric Laporte have been key to Manchester City’s defence this season. The latter may have had a difficult night at Etihad Stadium in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal, but a change in the defensive partner worked impressively.
Victor Lindelof has been the best defender for Manchester United this season, while Luke Shaw could be vital to Manchester United’s attacking and counter-attacking moves. Also, I expect Romelu Lukaku to play centrally as it would allow him to be at the receiving end of crosses, so expect Shaw to deliver a few.
Midfield: Pogba, D. Silva, B. Silva
Kevin De Bruyne’s injury could result in David Silva starting in the game. Yes, the Spanish midfielder hasn’t been the most impressive in his last few games. However, the Manchester derby has always been one of the better fixtures for the Silva.
Bernardo Silva, meanwhile, is on song for City. The attacker oozes quality and Guardiola would rely on him as he leads the front-three with Aguero and Sterling.
From Manchester United, Paul Pogba is the only midfielder in my team. The French midfielder has been quiet for some time, but his immense potential is no secret.
Forward: Aguero, Sterling, Sanchez
Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling are the obvious choices for this game. Raheem Sterling has arguably been City’s top performer this season and could create significant trouble for the inconsistent Manchester United defence. And so can Aguero.
The Argentine striker is also the highest goalscorer in the Manchester derby alongside Wayne Rooney, and would aim to become the outright top scorer in the fixture on Wednesday night.
The selection of Alexis Sanchez may come as a surprise to few. However, the Chilean attacker could be lethal in this game. The poor form of Anthony Martial could keep him out of the game and Solskjaer might allow Sanchez a final chance.
The Chilean was impressive in his outing at Camp Nou against Barcelona, and could partner Lukaku and Rashford in the front-three.
