The best footballer in the world

The best footballer in the world? Across eras, the question has always been rather difficult to answer, but Messi has now given his opinion on it.

Like every season, Lionel Messi has been a star performer for Barcelona in 2018/19. The forward has scored 15 goals so far, which is the highest in Spain’s top flight at the moment.

Messi has already broken numerous records this season, and that is after he was forced to sit on sidelines for a significant period of time, due to an arm injury in October.

Earlier this week, he gave a comprehensive interview to Spanish media outlet Marca, where he touched upon various topics.

Messi talked about his rivalry with Ronaldo, and responded to his challenge to come to Serie A. He also addressed the possibility of Neymar’s return to Barcelona.

In a widely-ranged interview, the Barca star also broke silence on the controversy surrounding Ousmane Dembele’s disciplinary issues. He also made a big claim, as he talked about the French youngster.

‘The best footballer in the world’

Ousmane Dembele’s disciplinary problems have been a major issue for the club this season.

Various first-team stars, including Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez, as well as France’s head coach Didier Deschamps, have talked about the player’s attitude.

Lionel Messi, however, had positive words for the French youngster.

“It’s up to him where he wants to go,” said Messi.

The Barca star also stated that Dembele could be ‘the best in the world.’

“He could be the best in the world. He’s young and adapting. The less you talk about this [his off-the-pitch antics], the better,” stated the Barca forward.

Messi insisted that Ousmane Dembele is aware of his disciplinary issues, and the Barcelona players are helping him to adapt to the club.

He has already realised his mistakes. He’s a very good lad, has changed and we will help,” the forward said.

Ousmane Dembele has been brilliant for Barcelona ever since making a comeback into the side, and has scored seven league goals in the season so far in 16 appearances.

What next?

Barcelona will return to action after the end of the festive break, on January 6.
