MI vs CSK – What numbers suggest?
If numbers are to help us dwell into who is going to emerge from this as the winner, it’s the Mumbai Indians who hold the upper hand. They’ve defeated the Chennai Super Kings all the previous three times these two met in this edition, the most latest being an ever so comfortable 6 wicket win in the first qualifier.
Overall as well, the Indians have seen this fixture be a fruitful one for them with 17 wins against CSK’s 12 in the 29 matches which the sides have fought in.
MI vs CSK – Key battles
Rohit Sharma vs Ravindra Jadeja
One a batting surface that has given us some absolute run feasts across the tournament, the Mumbai Indians know they’ll have to pile on the runs when they come out to bat. And one player they’ll be looking forward to doing that for them is their captain, Rohit Sharma.

The opening partnership of him and Quinton de Kock has been the reason for so many of exuberant successes for the Indians this season with the two setting up the perfect platform for the ensuing batsmen to take off from.
What Rohit does have a problem though is against spin, something that CSK have in abundance. While we expect him to safely play out Imran Tahir, Sharma will be inclined to take on Jadeja.
Super Kings all-rounder knows him pretty well and will be looking to make use of his quicker deliverers against Rohit, the ones that will skid of the surface causing Rohit all sorts of problems.
Jasprit Bumrah vs Faf du Plessis
We had alluded to this battle the last time as well and it features yet again. Such is the massive importance that both these mainstays hold for their side. du Plessis has been the one batsman who has kept coming up with the runs when his side needed them the most, the latest being a half-century against the Capitals to take CSK all the way to the final.
With Watson’s form way too inconsistent and the Super Kings never sure of if he can deliver on the night or not, Faf’s wicket will be off massive importance to the Indians. This is not the spinning surface that the two played on the last time they met and Rohit will deploy Bumrah in the opening overs against du Plessis.
MI vs CSK Match Prediction
While this clash might have been tentative to call earlier in the tournament, the way the season has run the course for both the sides, we have an easier call to make. As both the franchisees scour for their fourth trophy, we expect MI to come out of this as clear cut winners.

Despite CSK coming through in the second qualifier, the one was more of Delhi’s own doing rather than CSK being the clinical side. There are still many unanswered questions for the unit, especially in the pace department with Shardul Thakur being given just the one over against the Capitals. Also Harbhajan has kept leaking runs and the middle-order is far from reliable.
On the other hand, there has not been a more complete outfit than Mumbai this season. They’ve blown apart sides with their exemplary functioning and we expect them to do to CSK what they did to SRH last season. Expect the Indians to make it four wins out of four against CSK and add into their kitty their fourth title.
