Twitter reactions on Lasith Malinga: Twitter was exhilarated on Mumbai Indians registering their fourth IPL 2019 final at Hyderabad.

During the final of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings by 1 run to become the first team to win four IPL trophies.

Chasing a 150-run target, Super Kings were on the front foot after the start provided by their opening batsmen in Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson. However, them losing three wickets within a span of 12 runs brought MI back into the contest. The debatable run-out of CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni further didn’t help their cause.

That being said, it was veteran batsman Watson’s 19th IPL half-century which kept the defending champions in the match. The Australian batsman reduced the equation from needing 62 runs in five overs to 18 runs in two overs.

While a 51-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Watson and Dwayne Bravo improved CSK’s chances, the latter getting out in the penultimate over left the match hung in between yet again.

Watson (80) getting run-out in the last over once again turned the fortune of not just the match but the tournament. It eventually came down to Shardul Thakur needing two runs to win the match but him being found wanting against veteran Lasith Malinga on the final delivery saw an anti-climax to the match.

After MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat, his team ended up scoring a mediocre 149/8 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Pollard, who came in to bat at No. 6 in the 13th over, top-scored for Indians scoring 41* (25) with the help of three fours and three sixes.

With bowling figures of 4-1-26-3, CSK new ball bowler Deepak Chahar was the highest wicket-taker for the defending champions.
