Michael Hussey makes the choice between Ponting and Dhoni

Michael Hussey is one of those few who have had the privilege of playing under the captaincy of both Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni.

Until the 2011 World Cup, Australia probably had the best ODI team of all time, consisting of different players who could perform different roles and win the game for Australia single handedly.

Post that 2007 team, India started building an empire for itself, under their new emperor MS Dhoni.

The reign wasn’t as invincible as that of the Aussies but it brought laurels a plenty.

MS Dhoni became the first captain to win all possible ICC trophies and got his name etched into the record books forever.

Dhoni also led his IPL franchise CSK to two titles in the first few years, creating a legacy for himself with a T20 franchise too.

In the process he influenced the lives of many overseas stars as well, one of who was Michael Hussey, someone who has only had positive things to say about the great man.

In Bhajji’s chat show, Michael Hussey was asked to pick between Dhoni and Ponting and while he initially said ‘both’, he then quickly changed his answer to ‘Dhoni(but only if he was Indian)’.

Harbhajan: Big bash or IPL?

Hussey: IPL

Harbhajan: Ponting or MS Dhoni

Hussey: Both.

Harbhajan: You have to pick one.

Hussey: If i was an Indian, I will choose Dhoni

Hussey also spoke about his first tour to India and how VVS Laxman smacked them around throughout and the series and what a nightmare all of it turned out to be.

“I first came to India in 1994 with the Australia U19 team and we were here for about eight weeks. Everyone in the team got sick. We made all the mistakes – drinking the wrong water, eating the wrong food and stayed in pretty average accomodations. But it was a great learning experience.

“We learned a lot because the conditions were so alien to what we were used to in Australia. We weren’t able to get VVS Laxman out for eight weeks. But just watching how he went about playing on Indian pitches, we learned. Ever since then, I loved coming back to India.” Hussey said.
