Dhoni will hold the key for India

Dhoni will hold the key for India: Former Indian cricketer praised the wicket-keeper batsman and was confident about India’s chances for the world event.

Former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s return back to form has instilled a lot of confidence in fans regarding him playing a pivotal role in India’s campaign in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

While most of the former cricketers were sure about Dhoni’s capabilities, it were some fans who doubted his potential during his lean patch last year. With Dhoni performing well in Australia and New Zealand, he has made people believe once again that he can work wonders for the team.

Among many former cricketers who have been wax lyrical about Dhoni in the recent times is former India batsman Mohammd Kaif. In a recent chat with Hindustan Times, Kaif asserted that the Indian team revolves around Dhoni and that he will play a key role in the World Cup.

Kaif lends supports for Dhoni

“Dhoni has been the key player in this side. He is not the captain, but Virat Kohli trusts Dhoni to help him with decisions in crucial situations. The team revolves around Dhoni, the young bowlers go to Dhoni. The captain, when he is in trouble, he goes to Dhoni,” Kaif was quoted as saying.

Highlighting Dhoni’s current form in the series against Australia and New Zealand, Kaif said that it has it in it to win India the World Cup in July.

“The current form of Dhoni has been brilliant – the way he played in Australia was great. With Kohli, Dhoni and other players in form, we have a great chance to win the World Cup,” Kaif said.

“Kohli has been fantastic as a leader”

Talking about India captain Virat Kohli, Kaif was of the opinion that the team required a leader like him. Kaif further claimed him to be inspiration for many other cricketers as well.

“Fantastic [Kohli’s performance as a leader], I think he has been the leader India wanted, he has been inspiring the players in the squad and the aspiring cricketers. He has been outstanding since he started playing for India,” Kaif added.

Being asked about favorites of the World Cup, Kaif picked two teams who he believed could win the trophy. “I think India and England are the top favourites for the World Cup,” he concluded.
