Spain scored in the dying seconds of the match, thanks to an offside decision overruled by VAR, as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

The European side emerged as the winners of Group B as they played out a 2-2 draw against Morocco in their final match-day. However, the ill-famed VAR continued to remain in the limelight throughout the match. Morocco conceded an equaliser in the injury time, which was first ruled out as offside by the referee. However, the decision was overturned when it was referred to VAR.

Moroccan players were understandably angry with the decision, and one of them, Nordin Amrabat, couldn’t hold his frustration for long.

He gestured on the television camera, making a square box, and said, ‘VAR is bull***t.”

Here is the video of the incident.

Morocco were already eliminated from the tournament before playing against Spain, as they lost both of their closely-fought games to Iran and Portugal. However, the North African team impressed their supporters with a fighting display against Spain.

Morocco took an early lead in the game, before it was cancelled out by progressive tiki-taka attack from Iniesta and Isco. However, Morocco continued to play strong defensive football and attack Spain on counter. They ultimately led again in the 82nd minute, before Iago Aspas equalised with a controversial goal.

Spain will now play the Group B runners-up and host nation Russia in the knock out round. In the other group match, Iran held Portugal to a draw as the Asian side also scored an equaliser in injury time through a penalty. Portugal finished second in the group and will now face Uruguay in the round-of-16.
