Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni didn’t hesitate in crediting Kings XI Punjab, who beat them by 6 wickets in the second last league match of IPL 2019. The 37-year old cricketer was vocal about both Punjab’s batting and bowling.
“You need to give credit to them. They bowled really well. We had to get a par score, but it was difficult with their three spin bowlers. Overall, it was a really good batting effort from their side,” Dhoni was quoted as saying.
In a bid to stay in the Top two, Chennai had to make sure that they don’t let Punjab chase the total in less than 14.2 overs. With Punjab opening batsman in Lokesh Rahul and Chris Gayle scoring 68 runs in the powerplay, signs of worry must have crossed through the visitors’ mind.
Would have been a travesty ig Rahul’s thunderous knock had gone in vain. CSK paid penalty for sluggish batting towards innings end. Should have scored 20-25 runs more

Dhoni praises CSK’s bowlers
Being asked about the same, Dhoni laid emphasis on making sure that the opposition plays the “most number of overs”. CSK skipper also opined about his bowlers making a comeback after Rahul and Gayle’s brisk start.
“If you can’t win a game, you make sure you get the opposition to get the runs in most number of overs. [Qualifying for Top 2] Yes, and that’s something you have to keep in mind. We want to win the game, but if the opposition does well, you have to quickly adapt and re-assess.
“The first seven overs, we were quite down, but then the bowlers were able to pull things back a little bit. They bowled well in the last 8-9 overs for us,” Dhoni added.
