MS Dhoni completes 800 dismissals

MS Dhoni completes 800 dismissals: In which was yet another stumping dismissal for Dhoni, he has another milestone.

During the final of the Asia Cup between India and Bangladesh at Dubai, former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first Asian wicket-keeper to touch 800 wicket-keeping dismissals in international cricket.

After Rohit Sharma put Bangladesh in to bat, Liton Das’ quickfire innings seemed to give Bangladesh a substantial advantage in the match. However, once the Indian bowlers made inroads, there was no looking back for them.

Dhoni had started this match with 798 dismissals under his belt. With his swift hands stumping Das, Dhoni was only a dismissal away from the feat. The 37-year old wicket-keeper didn’t have to wait much longer for the feat as another stumping chance came in his way only after 11 balls.

It was the Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who became Dhoni’s 800th victim. On the penultimate delivery of the 42nd over, Mortaza stepped out to a Kuldeep Yadav delivery. Having missed the ball altogether, Mortaza had no option than to walk back to the pavilion for Dhoni had caused the damage until then. He ended up scoring 7 (9) with the help of one six.

Dhoni also surpassed former England wicket-keeper Steve Rhodes as he now has the second-highest List A stumping dismissals. With 130 dismissals to his name, Dhoni is only behind former Pakistan captain Moin Khan (138).

In ODIs, Dhoni was already on the top of the tree in terms of most stumping dismissals. With 113 dismissals now, Dhoni has gained a lead of 14 over Kumar Sangakkara. Before this match, Dhoni stood a chance to break three personal Asia Cup records. He has already achieved one by equaling Kumar Sangakkara’s records of most dismissals in Asia Cup (36).

Dhoni’s marvelous performance in the match attracted numerous reaction on social media platform Twitter. Watch some of them below:
