Living legend, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has had an extraordinary career. The Dhoni story is of a boy who came from obscurity and took his nation to the peak of the cricketing world.

The dashing wicket keeper batsman burst on to the screen as a big hitting lower order batsman. Once he settled in to the Indian side, Dhoni became more of a finisher, who was capable of shifting gears during the innings.

Now, Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the greatest finishers the game has ever seen, with players all over the world trying to emulate the methods that Dhoni uses to win games for his team.

After more than a decade in the game, Dhoni is now on the cusp of joining a very elite group of cricketers in the near future. He is just 342 runs away from clocking 10,000 international runs, a feat achieved by only three Indians.

If Dhoni reaches this landmark in the soon to commence series against Australia, he would join Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid in a list that has only 11 other batsmen.

Of the eleven batsmen, the three Indians are joined by four Sri Lankans and Inzaman from Pakistan, thereby showing the dominance of sub-continent batsmen in the game.

This is what head coach Ravi Shastri had to say about Dhoni,

“MS Dhoni is a massive influence on the team. He is a living legend in the dressing room and an ornament to the game,” Shastri said in Sri Lanka recently.By no means or by any stretch of the imagination is he finished or even half finished yet. ”

“If anyone thinks so, they are mistaken and they have another one coming. They are in for some surprises. The old dog has plenty to offer,” claimed the Indian head coach according to IBT.
