MS Dhoni vs Virat Kohli: Who Twitter loved the most and which team was the most tweeted-about in the 12th season of the Indian Premier League

The popularity of the IPL finalists this year- CSK and MI is insurmountable across the Cricketing spectrum.The two sides have provided its fans some unforgettable moments over the past 12 years of the IPL’s existence.
The 12th season of the IPL however, broke all the records in terms of popularity of these two teams in particular, and the IPL in general. The MI vs CSK IPL 2019 final had attracted massive eyeballs across the world, with Hotstar recording 18.6 million concurrent viewers on the platform- the highest for a live streaming platform in the world.
On Twitter too, the Twitteratis went berserk this year while tweeting IPL-related content. A total of 27 million tweets were recorded, as it broke the record of most tweeted IPL-related content during a single season. There was a substantial increase by 44% compared to the previous year when it comes to tweeting content related to IPL.
MS Dhoni pips Virat Kohli
The Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was able to grab most of the attention of the Twitter users. He owned the maximum place under the spotlight becoming the most tweeted-about player in IPL 2019.
He pipped Virat Kohli by pushing him to the second spot this year. Kohli was followed by Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Andre Russell, Hardik Pandya, Chris Gayle, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and David Warner in the rank.
While Dhoni was the most tweeted-about person in this year’s IPL, his team Channai Super Kings (CSK) was the most tweeted-about team throughout the IPL this year.

They were followed by Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) despite the latter two not making the playoffs. The least tweeted about team was Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
MI Dominating Twitter Conversations
The winners of this year’s IPL- Mumbai Indians dominated most of the Twitter conversations, with 63% of total Twitter mentions on the day of the final- May 12.
#MIvsCSK on the other hand, was the the most tweeted- about match hashtag in this season of the IPL. Placed second was #RCBvsCSK on April 21, the match in which MS Dhoni smashed 24 runs off the final over off Umesh Yadav, when CSK required 26.

The Golden Tweet, or the most popular tweet of the season was the one which Hardik Pandya had tweeted for Dhoni after his team’s (MI) victory against CSK in Qualifier 1. The tweet depicting the lovely bonding and cameraderie between the two got more than 16,000 retweets.
