“I Have Told You Guys a Thousand Times..” – Chase Elliott Has Had Enough of the Watkins Glen Question

After his spin at Michigan, the picture of Chase Elliott making it into the NASCAR Playoffs this year became even foggier. It is understood that in order to make it to the next stage of the season, Elliott will absolutely have to win a race between Watkins Glen, INDY Road Course, and Daytona.

And one of those places is being considered a strong suit for the Hendrick Motorsports star by many, Watkins Glen. Because not only does he have 2 wins on that racetrack, one of which was also his first win in the Cup Series, but his record on road courses is much better than any other driver in the garage today with 7 wins.

But while this fact could end up benefitting Elliott, it seems he doesn’t want to hear about it anymore.

Elliott makes it very clear, he isn’t circling Watkins Glen as his moment of redemption

Ahead of the race in Michigan, Elliott was asked whether he is looking at Watkins Glen as his first win of the season considering his record there, to which the HMS driver emphasized a point he seems to have grown tired and irritated of emphasizing. “I have said this, I don’t circle races. That is not how I operate. I just take it week to week and try to get better,” he replied.

“I have told you guys a thousand times, and I will make it a thousand and one, I just want to be a guy that can go and contend every week and be in the running wherever we go. Whether it is a half-mile, road course, two-mile speedway, I don’t want to care.”

“I don’t want to care where we are going. That is where I want to get. I will keep working really hard until we can achieve that.”

Chase Elliott could reach the top of an all-time list if he wins in the next two road courses

Even though he’s heard about it enough, let’s say for a minute that Elliott wins not only on Watkins Glen, but then on the INDY road course as well. Of course, this would not only ensure his spot in the playoffs, but two back-to-back wins would also help him find his groove and rhythm which he has missed so dearly this season.

But along with that, if Elliott wins two more races on road courses, he will find himself on top of the all-time road course winners list. Elliott sits 3rd on that list with 7 wins, and ahead of him is Tony Stewart with 8 wins, and Jeff Gordon with 9 wins.

So should Elliott win the next two road courses, it won’t only be a big moment in his season, but a big moment of his career.
