Joey Logano’s Candid Admission on NASCAR Scheduling Might Not Sit Well With the Bosses: “Asking a Lot for Fans To…”

Joey Logano Steps in on NASCAR vs F1 Debate: “They’re Not Going to Have a Clue What to Do”

The pulsating energy of fans filling the grandstands and cheering fervently is an indispensable part of NASCAR races. However, the mood can quickly turn sour when fans are asked to travel extensive distances to watch these events, resulting in a cohort of disgruntled supporters. Recently, reigning champion Joey Logano expressed his views on the sport’s scheduling issues. Admittedly, some of his observations might not be well-received by the organization.

These comments come in the backdrop of Denny Hamlin having some choice words days after Phoenix was announced as the venue for the Championship finale and might force NASCAR to take notice.

Joey Logano shares his thought on why NASCAR should work on its scheduling

There is no doubt that the NASCAR schedule could work up a refresh. There have been quite a few occasions where he has returned to the same venue more than once, in order to round up the schedule. However, Logano recently shared his thought on what NASCAR had been doing wrong and how it might upset the fan base.

Logano stated, “I think for one, no racetrack should have more than one race. I think that because we’ve seen that spreading out the love is good for the sport. We’ve proven that so many times here recently. With Road America. Oh my goodness, the place was packed, right? I always say this all time is asking a lot for fans to travel a long way away to go watch a race. If you get to travel three, four hours to go to a race and there’s hotel rooms, and all of a sudden it’s expensive, really, and the race tickets and all the other stuff that comes along with it like it’s asking a lot…”

Sometime later he added, “And the other thing they do get there is if you don’t like racing? Well, there is a heck of a concert afterward. You go for either one and makes everybody happy. So I think it’s they’ve done a good job put all that together. I think NASCAR as a whole has probably seen a lot of these things that we’ve done recently right with La Coliseum. And now going in Chicago, it’s just different fan demographics that we haven’t got to go see yet because a lot of people don’t have the opportunity to see a NASCAR race.”

Denny Hamlin on the Scheduling of the Championship Race at Phoenix

It was recently announced that the Championship finale was to be held once again at Phoenix all the way till 2024. This has faced criticism from several drivers such as Denny Hamlin, who has stated that despite being a good place due to the race being in November, the track does not produce that good of racing.

Moreover, the JGR driver also mentioned how there was one other option. He suggested reverting back to the Homestead Miami track since the weather and racing had been favorable in the past at the circuit. Considering how the playoffs are knockout rounds, it would definitely have been better to have a unique track for each of them.

After all, if NASCAR wishes to experiment towards expanding its demographics, considering not racing at a single circuit twice could be a good idea. Perhaps renovate and include some of the more historic and unused racetracks, that would surely be a spectacle to watch.
