The NASCAR Cup Series race in Chicago is here and with qualifying done, one thing is clear – the predictions of an incident-filled race were sound. With the likes of Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott involved in wrecks, one can only wonder what the actual race holds, where the field will be compact. Interestingly, Richard Childress Racing driver Kyle Busch believes there is one more thing that can add to everything – Rain.

While most believe that the very nature of the track means that it could be a wreck fest on Sunday, adding the element of rain is certainly not what the drivers and teams want. And Busch explains why.
Kyle Busch feels that rain in Chicago is the last thing drivers want
After practice on Saturday, the two-time Cup Series champion was asked, “Does the potential of rain make you nervous a little bit?”
Busch was honest with his take, saying, “Yeah I would say so. I don’t think any of us really want to venture out there and do too much in the rain, so, I don’t anyways. I mean there’s a lot of areas on the track where you.. anytime you get over 60-70 miles an hour that’s when the spray gets really bad. That’s when the visions get really bad so anytime you are under that spray is not terrible but it’s just going to be super slippery.”
Coming into the weekend, the former JGR driver did state that a wreck-filled race is exactly what fans will want, even if the teams and drivers would be at the receiving end. Busch said, “It’s not action that us drivers want to see, but fans kind of sometimes enjoy calamity. And that then turns into a social moment where they’re like – hey, check this out. If we’re those guys, then so be it and that’s kind of where it’ll lay.”

The Grant Park 220 has been a highlight on the 2023 calendar ever since it was announced. Turns out, Chicago also holds significance in the Busch household. Samantha Busch posted an extremely touching set of pictures of the couple on the Sky Deck at Willis Tower, with the caption, “13 years later, same spot 103 stories up. Our family has grown, our love has grown ❤️”

When asked how he spent his time in Chicago ahead of the race, Busch also highlighted the same, saying, “Yeah we went to the Willis Tower and did the Color Museum thing and then I also went up and took pictures in the boxes similar to what Samantha and I did when we got married here in Chicago, uh we went and did that, so it was 12 years ago so.”
