"$1500 Is A Lot To Mom But Not A Lot To Me": Shaquille O'Neal Divulged Into Why He 'Looks For Moms' At Best Buy

Shaquille O’Neal amassed a $400,000,000 net worth with his wise business decisions and endorsements. He has used his vast wealth for multiple acts of kindness and charity. In an interview with Gary Vee, Shaq once explained why he would look out for hesitant moms who would be skeptical about buying $1500 items for their children. For Shaq, $1500 is just like spare change, which allows him to gift those children the products their moms are hesitant to buy.

Shaquille O’Neal has engaged in several acts of charity since his early days in the NBA. The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation is a charitable organization founded by the Big Diesel, which aims to create pathways for underserved youth and help them achieve their full potential. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the foundation teamed up with Icy Hot to support student-athletes with their Get Game Ready Grant Programs. This is just one example of how Shaquille O’Neal uses his multi-million dollar net worth to benefit society. Shaq has earned much love and praise for his selfless actions for the community.

Shaquille O’Neal ‘looks out for moms’ to gift their children $1500 worth of gifts from Best Buy

For Shaquille O’Neal, buying items worth $1500 is like spending spare change. Therefore, he has no hesitance in spending that cash on others, especially children. When he goes to Best Buy, he always looks out for hesitant moms skeptical about buying their children expensive items such as a computer. Describing this to Gary Vee, Shaq said:

“My favorite store to go to is Best Buy and I’m always looking for the moms. Moms and the kids. And moms have to be moms, have to take everything. I just wait for them to price check. ‘How much?’ ‘$1500.’ ‘No, how much is this one.’ Now, I know I got one. So I talk to the kid and be like, ‘Go ask your mom can you take a computer from a stranger?’ [he] be like, ‘What?’ [I] be like, ‘Listen, I want to give you this but I don’t want you taking stuff from people s0 go ask your Mom is it okay.’ So, the moms turn around and see me because it’s just the right thing to do like $1500 is a lot to Mom but not really a lot to me”

Indeed, $400,000,000 Shaquille O’Neal would never mind making a little kid happy at Best Buy. Besides this, Shaq, through his charitable foundation, also funds several underprivileged children’s education and sporting dreams. As Shaq puts it, his upbringing plays a significant role in his charitable nature today.

Shaq has the unique superpower of always being curious

Gary Vee once remarked that Shaquille O’Neal had a unique superpower of always being curious. This is perhaps why he can pursue several side hustles, from being a successful entrepreneur to an emerging DJ. Describing Shaq, Gary Vee said:

“This guy’s f**king curious, he is inquisitive, and he is humble. Leaning more into curiosity always, always, always puts you in a good spot. And I think that’s why he has foundhimself in many different places…the lack of fear comes along with that. I’ve been inspired to triple down on my curiosity cause I see it in him.”

Gary Vee’s assessment of Shaquille O’Neal was definitely on point. Shaquille O’Neal never stopped learning, even after pursuing a successful NBA career. After retiring, Shaq earned himself a Master’s degree and even a Ph.D. in management. Truly, Shaq’s curiosity gives us a major lesson in never letting our learning sparks die.
