The LA Lakers started the 2023 Playoffs with a bang. LeBron James and Co. stole homecourt advantage from the Memphis Grizzlies with a 112-128 win last night. And, one of the main catalysts for this victory was Austin Reaves.

The 24-year-old guard was on fire, ending the night with 23 points, three rebounds, and four assists. To put it in his own words, it was a real “I’m him” performance. A performance that has many singing his praises as the next big thing in the NBA.
With such renown coming his way, it isn’t that surprising to see comparisons being thrown around. After all, it is only natural given how the former Oklahoma Sooners star has been playing. Well, one of the more interesting comparisons being made in the last few hours is with Gordon Hayward, AKA ‘White LeBron’.
Los Angeles Lakers star Austin Reaves draws comparisons to Gordon Hayward
Austin Reaves has been the fairytale story of the 2022-2023 NBA season. Reaves has shown drastic improvement in his second season, averaging 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists per game with somewhat efficient shooting numbers.
However, if last night’s game against the Grizzlies showed us anything, it’s that the sky’s the limit for young Austin. He showed great ability and poise as he helped the Lakers secure the W and has now created some interesting narratives around himself. For example, who does he most resemble on the court?
Well, Reaves does much of his scoring with his pull-up jump shot, is quite good at catch-and-shoot situations, and is capable of scoring at the rim. So, when watching him play, respected journalist Shams Charania is reminded of Gordan Hayward. The man once hailed as “White LeBron”.

It certainly is an interesting suggestion, and not too far-fetched. But, if he continues to wow with the form he is in his potential could be even higher.
LeBron James had high praise for Austin following his “I’m Him” performance
Austin Reaves was a man on a mission against the Memphis Grizzlies. And, this did not go unnoticed, especially by Lakers superstar LeBron James. After the game, The King sat down at the press conference and lavished Reaves with high praise. Claiming he knew that “Hillbilly Kobe” would be more than just a two-way player after his first practice session with him.

If the win over the Grizzlies wasn’t enough, then LeBron’s praise is sure to have made his day. Hopefully, he can ride the wave and live up to the expectations he has set for himself.
