Before his NBA Debut, Giannis Antetokounmpo Played an Off-Beat Role With His Mother in an Australian Film

Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the most recognizable people in modern sports. The Greek Freak is an NBA superstar, widely considered to be one of the best in the league. But, his dominance as a basketball player isn’t the only thing he brings to the table.

The Milwaukee Bucks star is quite the prolific businessman, with several endorsements to his name. With a net worth of close to $110 million, Giannis is a minority owner of the MLB’s Milwaukee Brewers and the MLS’ Nashville SC. It’s also impossible to forget his strong social media presence, with over 14 million followers on Instagram.

However, all this success came after he was drafted into the league in 2013. So, what accomplishments did Antetokounmpo have to his name prior to his NBA debut? Well, he played an off-beat role in the Australian film, Dead Europe in 2012.

There can be no denying that Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the most accomplished players in today’s NBA. An NBA Championship, a Finals MVP, two regular season MVPs, and a Defensive Player of the Year award make for quite a resume.

But, perhaps Giannis’ most intriguing accomplishment came even before he made his NBA debut. Back in 2012, the Greek Freak, aged 18, appeared in an Australian drama film titled Dead Europe. It was a bit-part role and one he played alongside his mother Veronica Antetokounmpo.

In the scene, the 2021 NBA Champion can be seen asking the main character, Isaac to keep it down as he was knocking loudly on the door. It really was a tiny role, but one that he played to perfection.

It’s safe to say that Giannis could have a future in Hollywood. But, his ascension from bit-part actor to NBA superstar truly is inspirational. And, it was translated to the big screen in the 2022 movie, Rise.

The Greek Freak’s story was adapted to film in the movie Rise

Giannis Antetokounmpo was a bit-part actor in the movie Dead Europe. But, in 2022 he went from bit-part actor to NBA superstar to having a movie made about his life. After all, Disney’s biographical sports drama film Rise covers the lives and journeys of Giannis and his family.

He truly has had quite the journey so far. And, the best part is its only beginning. The Greek Freak still has much to experience in life, and being only 28 means he’s got all the time in the world to do it.
