Kevin Durant reacts to a Boston Celtics fans throwing a bottle at Kyrie Irving in Game 4 as he walks back into the tunnel.
These 2021 NBA Playoffs have gotten off to an incredibly horrible start in terms of the interactions that have taken place between fans in the stands and the players on the court. A few nights ago, three such instances involving Ja Morant’s parents, Trae Young, and Russell Westbrook took place that, thankfully, were taken care of immediately.

Now, with the Brooklyn Nets playing perhaps their final game at TD Garden, Boston, a fan in the stands seemed to have taken the Kyrie Irving slander a bit too far. This incident comes just a few days after the Nets guard said that he hopes his return did not ignite any sort of disrespectful behavior that may cross the line.
Teammate Marcus Smart also backed Kyrie Irving up on this statement as he claimed Boston fans are known to be a bit too vulgar with their boos and disproval from the stands.

After having dealt with a bevy of boos from the Boston crowd, it seemed as though Kyrie Irving would not face any of the disrespect that he was alluding to in his statement from a few days prior. Unfortunately, as the All-Star guard was walking back into the tunnel to get to his locker room, a fan seemingly chucked a water bottle at him.

The fan, who was sporting a Kevin Garnett jersey, was immediately apprehended and handcuffed by security. It remains to be seen whether or not Celtics officials hand out any form of a suspension to the fan, following suit behind the Philadelphia 76ers who rightfully banned the ‘fan’ that threw popcorn at Russell Westbrook.
Kevin Durant was less than pleased with what took place as he called out the entirety of the Celtics fandom for having some of the most disrespectful fans in North American sports. “Grow the f**k up and enjoy the game. It’s bigger than you. We’re not animals. We’re not a circus”
Marcus Smart however, was a bit calmer with his reaction to the event as he said we should not judge the entirety of a fanbase off of one “knucklehead making a knuckleheadish decision.”
