Allen Iverson is one of the most iconic players in NBA history. Known for his incredible handles and speed, AI is also remembered for his impact on basketball culture. With his fashion sense, numerous tattoos, and of course, amazing braids, Iverson was an inspiration to many. In fact, his legendary braids were so iconic that he even employed his mother mid-game to help keep them intact.

Unfortunately, The Answer decided to cut off his braids prior to the 2008 All-Star Game. This decision received a variety of different reactions. On one hand, you had LeBron James who commented how it had been 13-14 years since AI last didn’t have braids. And, on the other hand, you had players like Dwyane Wade and Kevin Garnett who just stood there shocked at the sight of a braid-less Iverson.

The Hall of Famer was spotted with braids in his hair for the longest time. So much so that it became a part of who he is. But, playing a rigorous sport like basketball can often mess with the cut. So, he would regularly get his mother to fix his braids mid-game. In fact, an iconic clip of this has now resurfaced on the internet, thanks in part to a Redditor who goes by Naweezy.

In the clip, The Answer can be seen patiently sitting as his mother does his hair. He even gave her feedback on her work in what is such a wholesome video.

When Allen Iverson first introduced his iconic cornrow cut, many people took it poorly. The general consensus around the NBA was that AI’s style was rebellious, and as such it got quite a few odd looks. However, as Iverson himself revealed, the real reason he got the cornrows was that he grew tired of barbers messing up his style every time he went on the road.

“People were making a big deal about it, like it was a thug thing, but I was tired of (barbers) messing my hair up on the road. If I could get a cornrow, I wouldn’t have to worry about that.”

It certainly was the right and smart decision. With his cornrows, The Answer always looked his best, whether he was hitting up clubs on his off-time or balling out on the basketball court.
