Dennis Rodman once proudly declared that he was gay on national television only to later confirm that he was just joking. This little stunt on ABC’s The View cost Rodman his New York Knicks contract, but brought in a boatload of publicity. The Worm has done a lot of things in his career that have made people question his sexuality, including showing up in a wedding dress for the promotion of his book ‘Bad As I Wanna Be’. The five-time NBA Champion has broken many stereotypes in his attempt to live a life free of societal judgment and expectations.

Rodman’s massive popularity, which even rivals that of the great Michael Jordan at times, came from his willingness to do things that inspired change. His antics were considered bizarre and uncouth in the 90s, but have been embraced by posterity as groundbreaking to large extent.
Growing up without a father, the Bulls legend often felt a gaping hole in his identity since childhood. Struggling to fill the void in his identity, Dennis could never conform to the heteronormative norms of society. Therefore, he always seemed to gravitate toward the rebelliousness of the LGBTQ+ community despite being straight himself.
