For those confused, the American actor might have the exact same name as the NBA legend, but both celebrities aren’t related to each other. However, meeting someone with the same first name can get weird. And as expected, the 35-year-old does have a memorable tale to narrate from his first meeting with His Airness.
In an interview with Rich Eisen, the “Black Panther” star revealed that the duo were present at an All-Star event where they exchanged greetings. Speaking about the same, Michael said:
“I think at the time I met him, it was at an All-Star event. It was in passing and somebody was just like, ‘Hey! he needs an introduction. Hey, what’s up this is Mike.’ And I shook his hands and it was literally like less than 10 seconds… I don’t even think he knew who I was at the time.”
He also joked about wanting a collab with Air Jordan.
“I don’t know man. We got to figure that out… We got to collab on something. The market is too rich at this point.”
The actor was teased for his name
Growing up, Michael B Jordan must’ve been subjected to several jokes because of his name. Apart from jokes or even comparisons, the actor once revealed that he was in fact teased for having the same name as the Black Cat.
In an interview with “Page Six” from 2018, the then-31-year-old disclosed:
“I’m competitive. I want to compete in anything I do. That came from my name. Growing up in sports and having a name like Michael Jordan and being teased, I had to compete. I couldn’t be the guy with the name and not be good at it. That carried over to everything. I’m like, I’ve got to be just as great if not greater than he was in his field.”
Having won numerous awards and recognition for his art, Michael Jordan must be proud of his name-twin.
