"Don’t want to be a one-stop shop": Anthony Davis hungry for more championship success with LeBron James and the Lakers

Lakers’ big man Anthony Davis talks to ESPN’s Rachel Nichols and shares his aspirations for the future alongside LeBron James and co.

Last year, Anthony Davis got to learn how a championship experience feels like. The Los Angeles Lakers went all the way in the Orlando Bubble and earned the 2020 NBA Champions title. The Lakers are back again this year, to defend their title, and have made considerable improvements over the off-season.

While success always comes at a price, Anthony Davis says becoming a meme was one of them. When the Lakers won the championship game, there were images of AD crying, which were quickly turned into memes. However, AD does not seem to mind it.

“When we won, obviously I was a meme, crying and things like that, but that was one of the best feelings in the world, for sure, and I want to have that feeling again.”

Anthony Davis wants to win multiple titles with the Lakers

After his interview with Rachel Nichols, one thing was clear. Anthony Davis wants to be an NBA Champion as many times as he can be. In addition to his previous statement, AD had added and said:

“That was one of the best feelings in the world, for sure, and I want to have that feeling again. And a couple more times. You know, I don’t want to be a one-stop-shop, you know, a one-time thing, you know, you won one, I want multiple. And I think that’s the drive behind this season.”

After becoming a champion, and feeling the heat that comes along with it, Anthony Davis has a newfound appreciation for the Warriors. Repeating a title is never easy, and AD is realizing that now.

“You’re going to get everybody’s best shot. Everybody wants to beat the champions. That’s the toughest part. And now you appreciate, back when we were playing like, man, the Warriors are a cheat code, man. These guys, they’re just winning, they added players – but now, you know, as a Champion and you come out this year you really appreciate, like man, those guys, that was tough what they did. That was very tough to come out and repeat.

“Even back when Shaq and Kobe three-peat, it was tough to see what those guys did, especially when you have this target on your back. So, you’re gonna get everybody’s best shot.”
