NBA analyst Stephen A Smith talks about Kawhi Leonard and his upcoming contract, advises the Clippers to not make it a long-term deal

One of the biggest names entering this free agency was Kawhi Leonard. It has been 5 days of free agency, and we’ve seen a lot of teams make a lot of moves. However, there was no information on Kawhi Leonard and his plans, until last night. Chris Haynes of Yahoo reported that Kawhi and the Clippers are nearing a deal.

This must come as a relief to the Clippers camp, as there was nothing but silence from Leonard’s side. Kawhi has also received a lot of criticism for taking this long to make his decision.

Stephen A Smith has advice for the Clippers regarding Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Leonard, when healthy, is one of the best players in the NBA. Stephen A Smith acknowledged the same, before making his statement.

According to Smith, the Clippers should not give Kawhi a long-term contract. Despite Kawhi having one of the best performances, his ‘load management’ is problematic for every side, and considering he’s just coming off an ACL surgery, things are more unpredictable than ever.

Well, in some ways, Smith does make sense. The Clippers need stability, and the assurance that their star would suit up, something which isn’t a given with Leonard. According to Smith, the Clippers should give Kawhi as much money as they can on a 2 or a 3-year deal, but nothing longer than that.

It yet remains to be seen what deal do Kawhi’s side and the Clippers land on. Whatever it may be, one thing is for sure, Kawhi would make a lot of money.
