Having Once Paid $40,000 Alimony, Gilbert Arenas Defends Dwyane Wade For Splitting Bills 'Equally' with Gabrielle Union: "Bills This Month is $100,000"

Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade has been in the news recently over his partner Gabrielle Union’s viral comments. Union, 50, had claimed on the “Idea Generation” podcast that she and Dwyane Wade split everything “50-50,” leading to fans questioning the nature of their relationship. In response, Wade explained on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast that the “50-50” rule was not about a strict division of expenses. Rather, it was built upon mutual understanding and trust. Regardless, former Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas recently appeared on the VladTV YouTube channel. Among a range of topics, Arenas talked about Wade’s recent comments, claiming that the couple might be earning similar numbers at the moment. Arenas himself has experience of splitting bills with his ex-partner Laura Govan, who he was paying $40,000 a month until 2016, according to TMZ.

Still, there is little strange about the fact that Dwyane Wade and Union split their bills down the middle. Both of them are active earners and have successful careers to bank upon. While Wade’s NBA earnings must hold him in great stead, Union is a popular movie and TV actor who has starred in movies like 10 Things I Hate About You, and She’s All That.

Gilbert Arenas defends Dwyane Wade’s comments about splitting bills with partner 50-50

Vlad asked Gilbert Arenas if he thought it was fair that Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union split their bills 50-50. The fact is that the 3-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade has a net worth of $170 million, which might be more than enough to avoid a splitting of bills.

Arenas, however, believes that rather than it being a matter of overall earnings, the couple might be more concerned about their current earnings. He explained that while Wade might have a bigger net worth, his earnings might be around $300k a month, while Gabrielle Union, who is an active actor, might be earning upwards of half a million a year. Arenas also thought that the couple might have varied expenses of their own, leading to a compromise of sorts:

“For like, Wade and Gab right, when you are talking about two big entities right, He had his side, he has his kids, he has his house, probably mom and dad, this and that. And she has people on her side, her sisters this and that. So when they look at the bills, they are like, alright, your bills this month is 100k.”

In reality, Wade had explained that the couple had developed this philosophy after he once told Gabrielle that they were in his house that he had “paid for.” This led Union to tell him that he should never tell her that again. The two ended up promising each other more equality, and Wade claimed that they now have a mutual understanding based on love and trust.

Arenas paid a $40k monthly settlement to an ex-partner for years

There is little doubt that Arenas’ understanding of the situation is based on his own personal experiences. Both Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union had past relationships that ended on sour notes. Wade was married to Siohvaughn Funches, while Union had previously been married to former NFL player Chris Howard.

Arenas himself parted ways with ex-wife Laura Govan in 2010 and started off with a $40k monthly settlement. His wife took him to court, demanding more money, which led to a decrease in the monthly payments to around $10k.

Arenas didn’t appear to know the precise reason why Wade and his partner had the 50-50 split. However, his comments suggest that his own personal experiences played a role in his decision to defend the fellow NBA legend.
