The former Los Angeles Lakers star admitted that his DJ career is costing him money, but he is doing it to make people happy and cheer them up. He claimed this in a 2023 interview.

O’Neal has previously said that he charges nothing for the gigs that he does as DJ. Big Diesel said that he does it for bass and likes to see people jumping as if it is Game 7. Reportedly, he sacrifices the $292 million that he earns from side gigs.

Shaquille O’Neal admits that he loses money every show as DJ

In an interview on SiriusXM with Howard Stern, the four-time NBA champion said that his work as a DJ is more of a passion than a career. He told Stern that he DJed for bass music rather than earning money because he liked people jumping like it was the NBA’s Game 7. Again, in a recent interview, he reiterated the intention behind his recent bass tour.

“I do this for fun, I lose money every show, but this hour is similar to the hour and a half I would have playing four quarters, so that’s why I do it.”

Shaq is on a bass tour across the country, and he has reportedly set the stage on fire with his energetic performances. He has also said that he wants unknown, talented artists to get an opportunity on stage and show their talent to get recognition.

“Never. No, I don’t miss the game. Because, to put it in kung fu terms, the master Shaq Fu killed off all of his enemies. Now, there are new enemies that have come up, but they’re no match for the great Shaq Fu.”
