"I was racially insulted by Utah Jazz fans for 13 years": Rockets legend Vernon Maxwell explains why he detests fans of this year's league leaders

Vernon Maxwell has possibly the most petty, yet entertaining beef on NBA Twitter with the Utah Jazz. Today, he explained why in a tweet.

Racism is on the decline across the world today, but at one point it was brazen and in-your-face. Cities like Boston and Salt Lake City had some of the worst offenders in all of sports.

A Boston legend like Bill Russell refused to have his jersey retired in front of Celtics fans because of the rampant racism he faced through 13 seasons in the league. If the NBA’s most successful player of all time was in such position, others weren’t much better off.

Vernon Maxwell played in the league for 13 seasons. Drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 47th pick in the 1988 NBA Draft, Maxwell played 7 seasons in H-Town.

Vernon Maxwell has a savage reply to Jazz fans on Twitter

The Rockets had quite a few playoff battles in his time with Utah. For players like Maxwell, this meant visiting Salt Lake City and facing some raucous, unpleasant racists in the stands.

Vern definitely got the short end of the stick, and his beef with Jazz and their fans has a basis in fact. He posted another of his sensational roasts of Jazz and their fans for their status as league leaders.

Before that, he was asked why he resents Jazz fans so much, to which he replied:

“You farm animals from Utah like to say y’all livin rent free in my head & it’s true. Each time I played there for 13 seasons I was insulted, called racial slurs, got spat on. Threaten my kids lives. So yea rent free. It’s the worst place in the world to play at.”

Overall, you feel he’s very much justified in trolling a fanbase that had such vitriol for him in his playing days.
