“I Won’t Be on the Team!”: Stephen Curry Replaces Himself With Kobe Bryant on His All-time Starting 5, Gives Spurs Legend Tim Duncan a Nod

Stephen Curry is one of the best players in the world and has fashioned his game on some of the best players in the world. Recently, Steph sat down with Buzzfeed, where he did the puppy interview. There, he was asked to share his all-time starting five. And, although it was a significantly strong team, it did vary quite a bit when compared to the answer he gave Sports Illustrated back in December of 2022.

In December last year, Curry revealed his all-time starting five to SI. It featured himself, out of obligation, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Shaquille O’Neal. A formidable force to say the least. One that could even win you a few championships. But, a few months later, the Baby-Faced Assassin’s answer has changed. This time, Kobe Bryant is a notable inclusion.

Stephen Curry replaces himself with Kobe Bryant in newly fashioned all-time starting five

Over the years, there have been many greats to pass through the ranks in the NBA. As such, to ask anyone to pick an all-time starting five would be ludicrous. However, back in December of 2022, Stephen Curry attempted to do so in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

Having been given the instruction to pick a five, including himself, Curry enlisted Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Shaquille O’Neal. A team that any NBA roster would quiver at if they saw them step on the court. However, a few months later, the four-time NBA Champion was asked the same question and this time, he had a different answer.

Surrounded by puppies in an interview with Buzzfeed, Steph decided to replace himself with Kobe Bryant. An interesting change, but one that no one would be upset about, given it’s the Black Mamba we are talking about. But those weren’t the only changes. Curry initially had Larry Bird on the team but replaced him with Kobe. And he chose to switch out Dirk for another legendary power forward, Tim Duncan.

“I would pick Shaquille O’Neal as my center, Tim Duncan as my power forward, Larry Bird as my small forward, Michael Jordan as my shooting guard. Late edition…I’m not taking Larry…I’m taking Kobe as my small forward, Jordan as my shooting guard and Magic Johnson at point guard. I won’t be on the team.”

At the end of the day, both teams are incredibly talented, and Steph can’t go wrong running with either one of them. Safe to say, either one of the teams would take the NBA by storm.

Kobe Bryant, much like Steph dropped himself out of his starting five

Stephen Curry’s decision to remove himself from his own starting five is interesting. But it is also something that Kobe Bryant did back in 2009. Sitting down for an interview with ESPN, he revealed his all-time starting five. A five that was eerily similar to that of the Golden State Warriors star.

He had Magic Johnson running point, Michael Jordan at the two, Larry Bird playing the three, and Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain at the four and five, respectively.

It looks like both Kobe and Steph have good taste when it comes to picking teams. All that’s left is to pit the two teams against each other and see which one comes out on top.
