Back in 2011, Blake Griffin put the whole world on notice after jumping over a KIA sedan to be crowned the NBA’s Dunk Contest winner. Basketball enthusiasts all over the world couldn’t stop raving about the iconic dunk. At the time, nobody believed that this dunk could’ve been topped by any other one. However, LeBron James had a great idea, which he thought would one up Griffin’s dunking – jumping over a giraffe.

During the final round of the Sprite Dunk Contest, the Clippers’ star had every fan confused when he brought out a KIA car to the court. With Baron Davis hanging outside of the car’s sunroof, Griffin leaped over the hood and slammed it down. Unexpected and stunning.
JaVale McGee was unable to pull off a dunk that rewarded with as many points as Blake’s final rounds dunks did. However, prior to the 2011 All-Star Game tipoff, LeBron had an idea that would’ve surely been better.
“Brought a giraffe out on the court”: LeBron James was ready to break Griffin’s feat
Despite having some of the most electrifying in-game dunks, the 6-foot-9 forward has never enrolled himself to participate in the Dunk Contest.
But if he did take part in the entertaining event, the superstar would’ve surely emerged victorious thanks to a genius idea – dunking over a giraffe.
Goofing around with Dwyane Wade while waiting for Chris Bosh to get the Miami Heat’s All-Stars’ photoshoot, the King said:
“I told D Wade why I weren’t in the dunk contest last night is because I wouldn’t park a car out there, it would’ve been a giraffe out there. Jumped over a giraffe. I’d brought a giraffe out on the court. And when I would’ve jumped I would’ve pushed the giraffe head down and dunked. Man, it would’ve been so nuts and I’d roll out there in one of those safari cars too.”

Why hasn’t LeBron participated in the dunk contest?
Ever since the All-Star Weekend added the dunk contest to the schedule, we have witnessed some of the game’s greatest players suit up for the event – Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Julius Erving, Dominique Wilkins, and many more.
LeBron, who has won all major accolades the NBA has to offer, has never participated in the same despite the fans begging him to do so.
Unfortunately, the Dunk Contest is something that is not on the King’s agenda. As mentioned by Complex, according to the 4-time MVP, participating in the dunk contest just isn’t his “flavor”.
