“If Rudy Gobert plays Joe Ingles for Olympics gold, ‘Pure hooper’ Twitter would melt down”: NBA fans react to Patty Mills’ Australia subduing Kevin Durant’s Team USA in the first half at Tokyo 2020
Team USA found itself down by 15 points in the first half today. Rudy Gobert would be smacking his lips in anticipation if France play them again.
It was one of the most listless displays of basketball we’ve ever seen from Team USA basketball. They were outhustled, outmaneuvered and comprehensively outplayed in the first 20 minutes by the Boomers.
Team Australia got contributions from every member of their roster to take the floor. Joe Ingles got the game going with 2 quick 3-pointers to give Australia the lead. They didn’t relinquish it for the rest of the half.
Australia found itself up by 41-26 with around 4 minutes of the 2nd quarter to go. Gregg Popovich called a timeout and got Jrue Holiday and Jayson Tatum back out on the floor.
This resulted in the USA pulling back to within touching distance of Australia. Because otherwise, their play as a team during the first period was downright horrible.
“If Rudy Gobert plays Joe Ingles for Olympics gold, ‘Pure hooper’ Twitter would melt down”: NBA fans
Kevin Durant was the only Team USA player to acquit himself with his efforts on both ends of the floor. He was made to work exceedingly hard for his 15 points off 14 shots in the first half.
NBA Twitter couldn’t quite process how Team USA came so flat out of the gate. The reactions to their listless play suggest that they’re heavily pessimistic about USA’s chances at winning this game.
Would be a tough break for Real Baller twitter if the Olympic Gold Medal game is Rudy Gobert vs. Joe Ingles.
