"It's hard to be the face of the league when Kevin Durant hasn't been the face of his teams": Colin Cowherd questions Nets star's eligibility as the future face of the league

Fox Sports Analyst Colin Cowherd discusses Kevin Durant and his future as the face of the league, says it should not happen

The NBA is at a crucial juncture. They have had one person as the face of the league for a decade, but that may not be the case for long. LeBron James has been the face of the league since 2011, but age is catching up with him. Age and injuries are catching up with the Lakers’ star, and it’s not sure how long can he perform at a higher level.

For quite a few years, it was assumed the torch would pass to Kevin Durant. However, his Achilles injury had people doubting the same. Kevin Durant has proven that he is back, and was performing at his high level again.

Despite Kevin Durant proving he is 100%, there are still people who question his authenticity as the future face of the league. One of those doubters is Fox Sports Analyst Colin Cowherd.

Colin Cowherd says Kevin Durant has never been the face of any team

Kevin Durant has been a part of three teams during his time in the NBA. The Oklahoma City Thunder, the Golden State Warriors, and the Brooklyn Nets. However, according to Colin Cowherd, he hasn’t been the face of any of those teams.

During his segment, Cowherd said,

In Kevin Durant’s three stops, I’d argue he’s never been the face of the team. In Oklahoma City, what was his frustration? Management sided with Westbrook. As wrong as they were, they were really wrong. Kevin got frustrated with the coach and the GM, who wouldn’t confront Westbrook, who was very difficult to play with. Kevin was called at one point ‘Mr. Unreliable.’ Westbrook was more popular, then he goes to Golden State and he was their best player. Finals MVP, but the culture was created by Steph. Steph is the Bay area, it was Steph’s team.

And then he goes to Brooklyn. Ok, it’s his team. Well, not really. The last two weeks it’s been his team, but in the regular season, the hottest the Nets got was when Kyrie got hurt and Harden took over and were we on this show saying, ‘wait, Harden is a valuable player.’

While KD may not have been the face in Golden State, he sure is in Brooklyn and was in OKC. Cowherd is gravely mistaken to think that the Slim Reaper does not qualify for the face of the league.
