“Kevin Garnett looked at me and said ‘who the f**k you talking to'”: Former Celtic Glen Davis reveals his altercations with the Hall of Famer
Glen Davis narrates the incident of how he got on the wrong side of Kevin Garnett in his first practice session as a Celtics player.
NBA has a history of players getting into arguments, tempers flying and fighting. Handling their massive egos is most of the times complicated and can get out of hand. In one case, two players of the same team got into an altercation.
Former Boston Celtics’ center Glen Davis was on the Boston Celtics championship team. He shared the locker room with Hall-Of-Famers Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce leading the team. Kevin Garnett is famously known for the constant trash-talking he did when he played the game.
Glen Davis was very close to starting his NBA career on Garnett’s wrong side. The ‘Big Baby’ ended up getting in a massive altercation with the 15-time All-Star, in only his first NBA practice. Davis recollected:
“It was my first-day hoopin’, and we’re playing pickup. I’m like, ‘Okay, cool, I’m here now.’ I get a jump shot, boom hit it, and I leave it up like, ‘get up, yeah,’ talking to myself.”
“Ticket looked at me like, ‘Who the fuk you talkin’ to?’ I’m like, ‘This is Ticket, but I’m no bith a** dude, I’m just trying to get my swag.’ He’s like, ‘Fuk your swag!’ I’m like, ‘Fuk your swag!’”
“My mom told me to go and make things clear with Kevin Garnett”: Glen Davis
Glen Davis stated, if it hadn’t been for his mother who persuaded him to apologise to the ‘Big Ticket’, he probably would’ve never cleared things between them. Luckily for Davis, he apologised to KG, and very generously the veteran had forgiven the then-rookie. Glen Davis said:
“I was talking to my mom, and my mom was like, ‘Go to him and say, man, keep it on the floor, I apologize. (…) He’s getting breakfast, so I kinda edged up to him, like wanting him to speak to me.”
“He just looked right past me. I walked up to him, he was in his locker, and I was like, ‘Man, I apologize. Whatever I did yesterday, I thought it was gonna stay there, but I apologize right now.’ He was like, ‘You good little fella.’”

Kevin Garnett was the star for the Boston team. If wanted, he could’ve gotten Glen traded from the team if he wanted to. Luckily, Garnett forgave Davis and took him under his wings to help Glen with his game. The two share a good relation, camaraderie and mutual respect for each today.
