Recently, during an appearance on the Dubs Talk podcast, Barkley reiterated his admiration for the direction Sacramento is taking. However, his enthusiasm waned when the Kings lost to the Golden State Warriors after qualifying for their first Playoff Series in 16 years.

The podcast was released shortly after an incident involving Stephen Curry. Steph playfully mocked Barkley for not having any championship rings. During an interview, Curry was asked whom he would give one of his rings, and he playfully excluded Charles Barkley from the list. Instead, Curry mentioned that he would consider Steve Nash and Reggie Miller as worthy recipients of his NBA rings.

Interestingly, Charles Barkley’s part for The Dubs Talk podcast was recorded almost two weeks before Steph Curry’s comments on him. Hence, Stephen Curry did not influence Chuck’s opinions on the Sacramento Kings.
During the Western Conference Playoff Series against the Golden State Warriors, Chuck was confident about Sacramento’s progress in the series. He was quite eagerly rooting for the Kings and even guaranteed a win before Game 5. However, the Kings were defeated 4-3 in the series by the Warriors, much to Chuck’s disappointment. On the podcast episode from July 25th, Chuck once again expressed his support for the Kings and believed they should have won the series.
“I love where the Kings are going. You know Mike [Brown] did a fabulous job, I’m a big De’Aaron Fox fan, a big Sabonis fan. But man, they should have won that series.”
It seems like Chuck is quite pleased with Sacramento’s off-season moves. They were able to resign veteran starter Harrison Barnes and finalize the Richaun Holmes deal. Hopefully, Chuck can keep his hopes tight with the Kings, only if they qualify for another playoff in the upcoming season.
