“Kyrie Irving will void his contract”: Stephen A Smith warns Nets star to come back to NBA action quickly or risk losing $108 million
Stephen A Smith says Kyrie Irving is running the risk of voiding a contract worth well over $100 million with the Nets if he doesn’t come to play.
Irving has been visible only in the headlines over the past 10 days of ‘going off the grid’. He neglected to inform Steve Nash of his reasons for absence at first. He also froze out the Nets management, and didn’t answer to them then. It took him days to talk to them, which is unprofessional of him.
It was later revealed that Kyrie may have been out partying with his family in the interim. His sister and father celebrated their birthdays over the last couple of days.
This revelation opened a can of worms. The NBA is currently investigating footage of Irving outdoors. If they find him guilty, he will be subjected to a per-game fine in excess of $400,000. But Stephen A Smith has even worse tidings for him.
Stephen A Smith warns Kyrie Irving that he could void his contract
On today’s episode of First Take, Stephen A had an ultimatum for Kyrie Irving:
“In reality, Kyrie Irving is going to be the third option on this team. I was told yesterday that if he keeps this up, the Brooklyn Nets will have the power to void his contract. I don’t think Kevin Durant’s going to let something like this happen. But this is a risk he is running.”

The Nets are definitely among the most stacked teams in NBA history. In terms of first-option offensive talent, they’re truly peerless. All 3 of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden have carried offenses that would be subpar without them to the playoffs. It’s a matter of how well they gel, who gets to take more shots and how the Nets defend that will determine the NBA champions this year.
