Kevin Garnett and Lebron James go way back. Garnett entered the League in 1995 as the 5th pick. Selected to the Timberwolves, Garnett is still the franchise’s greatest player. A Hall of Famer and The Centerpiece to the 08 Champion Celtics, Kevin is one of the fiercest competitors, who uniquely had the chance to lace up against both ‘His Airness’ and ‘King James’.
The rivalry first gained limelight when the two clashed in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals in ’10. The duo battled it out for six long games. In the end, the “Big Three” Celtics proved too much for a young Lebron, with the series ending in six games.
This event would set in motion the most historical trades in sports history, as Lebron in his famous interview, declared that he would be “taking his talents to South Beach”. In a recent interview with Complex the Celtics Big Man took jabs at the King, when asked about Lebron’s decision to move to Miami, Garnett said ” We broke Lebron and the Cavs in 2010″. The Big Ticket further explained how the Celtics played a pivotal role in forming the “Big- Three in Miami”.
With the “Big Three” of Miami suiting up under legendary coach Pat Riley, the league knew what was coming. The big three in Miami won two Championships together while registering a proper thrashing to the Celtics in the following year leading to the Big Three in Boston breaking down and bringing Lebron’s “Villian Arc” to a full circle.
Garnett’s Comments on the Publics Perception of Lebron
In a recent interview, Garnett raised heads as he talked about the series with Miami as he set the record straight about Lebron. The big-ticket claimed that ” Lebron ain’t no punk, He talks s**t too. He is Akron. He ain’t from Beverly Hills. Dwayne and all of them ran their mouths. We went at it back and forth the whole time. It is a perception that people had that it was one-sided.”
The bitter-sweet rivalry between the Boston Celtics and King James is one for the history books. With Celtic legends like Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett always giving us polarizing takes on the King and the rest of the league, one thing is for certain, we sports fans will always be entertained.
