The Jordan Brand has been the most dominant player in the sneakers market in America since the late 80s and early 90s. In fact, the Michael Jordan-owned brand pretty much kickstarted the sneaker culture in the country. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any other players in the market to challenge the Air Jordans. Recently, Nike’s ‘most hated’ dunks overtook three Jordan sneakers to become eBay’s most sought-after kicks.

Michael Jordan’s deal with Nike in 1984 has made him a billionaire. Instead of settling for a sum of money, Jordan had the foresight to strike a deal with the then-up-and-coming brand to ensure 5% of the revenue from the gross sales of his shoes.
The Jordan brand generated a staggering $5,200,000,000 in revenue last year, which saw His Airness make $260,000,000 from royalties. However, his shoes seemed to be facing tough competition in the market from the highly polarizing Nike Dunk Low “Panda”.
Nike’s Dunk Low “Panda” edges out three Jordan sneakers on eBay’s list
The Nike Dunk Low Pandas have been one of the most polarizing shoes in the market in recent times. As this report from last year had pointed out, everybody seems to own a pair of these dunks and yet nobody seems to like them. The article deemed the lack of exclusivity attached to the dunks, which as we know is vital in the sneakers market, as the root cause for such a public perception.
However, there’s no denying the public demand for the shoes even a year later. In fact, the Pandas recently topped eBay’s ‘most sought-after sneakers’ list, as per Boardroom. The black-and-white shoes beat the Air Jordan 4 Thunder, Air Jordan 3 White Cement Reimagined, and the Air Jordan 4 Pine Green, to secure the top spot.

Even though the Jordan brand had to concede the top spot, their sneakers still occupy a majority of the market share. The winner in this healthy competition is none other than Nike, who produced all of the five sneakers on the list.
Michael Jordan made more than Messi last year in hourly income
Michael Jordan may have retired from the NBA a long time ago, but he’s still giving the best athletes in the world a run for their money. Last year, MJ made a staggering $29,223 every single hour, which is almost double than that of Messi’s income of $14,840.
However, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner was still playing in Europe last year. His move to America in 2023 is set to transform Messi’s financial situation completely. It will be interesting to see if MJ still manages to edge out the Argentine sensation.
