As the playoffs arrive, so does the Draft Lottery for the next year. It is a highly-anticipated event for NBA fans, especially the one’s rooting for teams that have a chance of a high draft pick this season.

The 14 teams which will make up the Draft Lottery this year are the 14 teams not invited to the Bubble, plus the 6 teams which did not make it to the playoffs.

The NBA plans to hold the Aug. 20 Draft Lottery virtually, with 14 team representatives appearing via virtual display, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

What is the NBA Draft lottery?

The NBA Draft Lottery is to determine the NBA Draft order for the teams who have missed the playoffs the previous year. In layman terms, the draft lottery will determine who will get to have the first draft pick and so on.

The NBA (National Basketball Association) holds the NBA Draft Lottery annually. It has been happening every year since 1985.

In the NBA draft, teams obtain the rights to amateur U.S. college basketball players and other eligible players. This also includes international players. The lottery winner will be eligible for the first draft pick, something that could shape that particular franchise for years to come.

In a season where college scouting has been difficult, it will be interesting to see how the actual draft pans out, but the lowest ranked teams would be hoping they can sneak up on that first draft pick through the lottery.
