Kevin Durant has had a bad reputation over the years for taking criticism of any form in a wrong way. Especially on the internet. The Slim Reaper has burner accounts on Twitter and possibly even other social channels. This is not a rumor, in fact, he has admitted publicly that he uses burners. But the reason for which he made those fake accounts might give you a soft corner for the Phoenix Suns’ cerebral assassin.

Fans have always tried guessing what might be the reason for a 6′ 10″ superstar of a Top-4 sport in the United States, who also has a net worth of $200 million, to do such petty things. So, do you know why KD uses burner accounts?
The reason why Kevin Durant uses burner accounts
Playmaker HQ on their YouTube channel, recently uploaded a detailed breakdown of what could have led to the 13x All-Star making burner accounts. He uses it to defend himself from online criticism, which in no way should have had an effect on him. Here is Playmaker HQ’s James Caricato’s Tweet for the same.
Haters and trolls have had a field day joking at KD’s expense without truly understanding why KD feels the need to use burner accounts in the first place.

The comparison with how LeBron James became the villain of the league in 2010 when he joined the Heat, paved the way for KD to become a fan favorite of the NBA. But he endured the same kind of hatred when he joined the Warriors in 2016.
And the reason for Durant to make burners in and around 2017 cannot be anything apart from his social media addiction. The very fans who had a lot of praise for him even without a championship started to hate him after winning two rings and 2x Finals MVP.
They slandered him like never before. His retreat? Making fake social media accounts to defend himself, pretending to be a random fan.
When KD got caught and accepted that he uses burner accounts
Back in 2017, while trying to give an explanation for leaving OKC Thunder, Durant thought he was on his burner, but he wasn’t. He made a Tweet that did not sound like him at all but through his official handle. And before he could delete his Tweets, several people caught him red-handed in the act.
Before the start of the 2020-21 season, when he was getting ready to take the court after a year-long break and a move away from the Warriors, KD appeared on a Barstool Sports podcast, The Corp, where he said the following:
“I still have burners that I use for sure. I have a burner Twitter account still. When people use that burner thing against me, they only thought I was on there just to talk s**t. I was really indulging in a lot of different communities on my burners. When I deleted it I was like ‘These people really made me delete what I enjoy, which is my burner account.’ So, I got another one.”
What a man, always do you, Mr. Durant.
