‘You have the 3-point champion. Play him!’: When Kings fan berated head coach Luke Walton for benching Buddy Hield
A throwback to the time when a disgruntled Kings Fan asked HC Luke Walton what everyone was thinking
Luke Walton has been the head coach of the Sacramento Kings since April 2019. Before this, he had his first-ever head coach job back with the Lakers. He was the head coach of the Lakers for 3 seasons. Luke Walton hasn’t had the best record as a Head Coach. He had a 129-189 record with the Lakers, and a 31-41 record with the Kings last season.
There are a lot of people – players included – who do not agree with the way Luke coaches and takes his decisions.
“You have the 3 PT champion! Play him”: A mad fan throws wisdom at Luke Walton
Things haven’t been the best between coach Walton and Buddy Hield. Buddy had an issue with the way Luke Walton made him sit out in close 4th quarter situations, where he could have altered the result. One such is this case. The Raptors were in Sacramento on 8th March 2020.
A close, 1-possession game. Buddy Hield was crowned the NBA 3point champion less than a month ago. 3 point game, Kings possession, and Buddy is nowhere to be found on the court. The Kings eventually fell short 118-113, but the result could have been different if Buddy was on the floor.
A fan points out the same to the HC Luke Walton. He says, “You’re an idiot! You have the 3PT Champion! Play him! Where is Buddy?”
While the fan wasn’t wrong, he could probably have said the same respectfully.
What remains to be seen is how things would be with the Kings, Luke Walton and Buddy Hield this season. In his 4 preseason games, Buddy has been shooting the ball really well from the deep, and has averaged around 15ppg in the limited time he gets.
