Fans of the Dallas Mavericks have found ways to laugh at their own misery ever since the franchise parted ways with Luka Doncic last month. This trend continued with the team’s latest update that Anthony Davis would be suiting up for the Texas Legends in a G League rehab assignment.

It’s a promising update for Davis, who has suited up just once for the team since arriving from Los Angeles.
AD was dominant in his Mavs debut, posting 26 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists, but the varied reactions from the Dallas faithful made it clear that they still haven’t moved on from the decision to send away their Slovenian superstar.
Fans took time to poke fun at the idea of the 10-time All-Star playing in the G League. AD’s impending return is a positive sign for a Mavs squad still hoping to make the playoffs. But considering Dallas’ current situation has been the laughingstock of the NBA for over a month, it’s not too surprising that fans are still teasing the star big man and his team.
“Traded Luka for a G-Leaguer,” one fan joked on X. “Bro is washed, about to be a G League legend,” another responded to the news, insinuating that Davis’ time as an All-NBA center is over.
“But they traded Luka, because he was fat and out of shape,” a third fan replied, pointing out that Davis’ injury concerns far outweigh Doncic’s supposed fitness issues. At 32 years old, Davis is one more serious injury away from his superstar status truly being in peril.
On a positive note, Davis will have the chance to play some low-risk 5-on-5 in the G League before the Mavs decide what their next move is for the big man. Kyrie Irving’s season-ending ACL tear added further doubt that Dallas could revive their season, but Davis could at least help the team claw their way into the postseason.
The Dallas Mavericks have struggled in the absence of their stars
The Mavericks looked lost without Davis, and Irving especially, to lead the way.
The team has been inflicted with a nasty injury bug over the last month, and the ones who remain have only managed to lead Dallas to two wins in their last 10 contests.
At this point, a playoff appearance seems unlikely for the Mavs, even with Anthony Davis’ impending return. The team is barely clinging to the last play-in spot in the Western Conference, and with the discombobulated, but star-studded Phoenix Suns breathing down their neck, it will be tough for the injury-riddled Mavs to hang on to their current position.
